Will a Shoplifting Civil Demand Show Up on a Background Check
My question involves criminal records for the state of: Louisiana
Hey guys. I think I have a pretty simple question. I shoplifted, embarrassingly, two condoms from Wal-Mart when I was 17. I was stupid and was to scared to buy them (I know, its dumb). Well they caught me at the door and took down my information. No police were involved at any point. But 2 weeks later I got a letter from then demanding $200 or they would pursue charges on me. I'm now 24 and I have an absolutely spotless record. This has been my only negative interaction ever with security and never had a bad interaction with law enforcement. Well now that I've graduated college with a degree in Criminal Justice, I was pursuing a law enforcement career. I paid them the $200 immediately, which is probably against any legal experts advice, because I just wanted to be done with the situation. After I paid, I never heard anything from them again. I was wondering if this is something that will show up on a background check when the department I apply to does their research on me or any other way, or are these civil matters usually handled in house and only in Walmarts information?
Re: Wal-Mart Shoplifting Civil Demand
Civil Demand is just between you and wallyworld. It will not show on a background check.
Re: Wal-Mart Shoplifting Civil Demand
I was so scared they would be able to find it in some way, thanks for the speedy reply.
Re: Wal-Mart Shoplifting Civil Demand
It's possible it is reported to the NRTD but that isn't going to affect you unless you apply for a job with another major retailer. It's not going to show up in criminal background checks or most credit checks. It will age out of the NRTD in seven years.

I actually held a job at best buy as a salesman for 2 years, just recently quit when I graduated. So it must not have been reported to NRTD?

Or Best Buy overlooked it given the amount of time that had passed.
Re: Wal-Mart Shoplifting Civil Demand
It's not published as to which stores subscribe to the NRTD.
Re: Wal-Mart Shoplifting Civil Demand
^^^and that is deliberate, to avoid a shoplifter targeting only stores that do not subscribe.

You might be right. I'm not trying to sound conceded but, I am very charismatic and people say that I do EXTREMELY well a job interviews so maybe they did look over it. Thanks for the confidence boost! Cant wait to knock this next one out the park!
