    Who Knows?
What to Do if Your Cable TV Rate Increases Above the Contract Price
My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: New York

I changed cable companies last summer because the Spectrum representative promised me a set rate of $115.50 for 3 years.
When we executed the contract, I had him initial the rate of $115.50 and he wrote "3 years."
My bill began at $118.16 and has gone up to $120. I've called the rep, who said he'd look into it, but he never got back to me. No surprise.

Question: Do I have any legal leg to stand on, to force the company to honor the rate I was promised?
And, if yes, should I call Spectrum, write them, contact the FCC, or just file in small claims court.

And if I have no legal standing, well then I guess it's true that a sucker is born everyday!
    Thank you.

Re: Can Cable Tv Company Be Legally Held to Rep's Promised Monthly Rate
I would imagine the minuscule increase is a result of changes to required (or made up on their part) fees which are not normally considered a part of a negotiated rate. I would kill to get Spectrum for that rate for one year. I've been a customer so long that they no longer offer me any incentives. They are the only broadband provider with decent speeds available in my area.

You can go to fcc.gov and on the sidebar there's a "file a complaint" link. File one of those and you will be contacted by the cable company to discuss your issue. Usually it's from the legal office by someone empowered to "Fix" things if there really is a problem. Note, this isn't often the speediest of solutions but certainly the easiest to do.

I agree, I suspect given the tiniest of amounts of the increase, we're looking at some regulatory fee increase. Have you compared your bills line by line to see what changed?
