Getting Support From Your Parents After Emancipation
i understand that to be emancipated, your parents have to give consent, but...
if you're emancipated, do they have to pay half of your bills for some time? or is that something else? if it is, what is it?

also, what about divorcing your parents? they dont have to have consent there, so id like to know what are the 'rules' and details upon that, please.
in florida, too, by the way.

If you are emancipated, they don't have to pay one red cent towards your support. That's what emancipation MEANS - being SELF-supporting.

If you can't support yourself without help, you can't be emancipated.

    Do you have any documentation?

Does a "made for TV movie" count? The issue in that case was under what circumstances a child should be able to initiate proceedings to terminate his (abusive) parents' parental rights such that he can be adopted. Nobody argued that he would become emancipated or independent through that process.

well i mean, maybe it's not called emancipated.
i don't have any documentation on it, since someone i know told me about it.
also someone else i know who studied law, but's not on the bar or a paralegal or anything told me you can 'divorce,' or break away from your parents - not emancipated.

i also heard (somewhere) that you can do something so that your parents help you pay your bills... <-- what's that called??

thanks a lot anyways for all your reponses.

I believe that's called "wishful thinking".

You should stop talking to those persons because they are wrong!
