Does Texas Have Emergency Family Maintenance
My question involves a marriage in the state of: Texas
I have a friend who's husband just filed for divorce and she is pregnant with his baby and she also doesn't have a job. I know in Maryland they have Emergency Family Maintenance. Does Texas have an equivalent program? What is it called and what is the process to file for emergency maintenance?
Re: Does Texas Have Emergency Family Maintenance
In Maryland, emergency family maintenance is allowed in domestic violence cases (Maryland Statutes, Sec. 4-506). Is this a domestic violence case?
Texas does not have a similar statute, but is is possible to file for temporary spousal support and, ultimately, child support in a Texas divorce case. Your friend should discuss her situation with a family lawyer, and determine from there what her best next step would be.
