I think the most worrying thing is that this app is completely anonymous. They encourage users to use fake profile pics and on top of that they never save usernames to their servers and have users change their usernames each time. On top of that they delete all pictures and messages that are over 7 days old including chat history and they are completely encrypted. There is not even a way to contact the app if you have a concern or worry as there is no contact link provided. The only information the app keeps is they assign each user's device a user ID and they use that user ID to identify everybody. However, they don't save any location information either.
I am just wondering if as a parent you find your kid on some app like this and they are engaging with these disgusting people how can you even deal with this issue. Law enforcement can't contact a specific person who works for the app and all evidence will be deleted from the servers in a few days. On top of that it is completely anonymous!! It is literally a breeding ground for inappropriate activity.
These apps are common. There are also places, like parks, where kids can meet totally squicky strangers among others. Education is always a better choice as you cannot protect your children 100% of the time and then expect your children to be self sufficient adults. Your fascination and out of proportion concern with these site is more worrisome to me that kids knowing about them.
Nothing is truly anonymous. It the police have an inclination and probably cause, it likely can be traced (unless it is in a non-cooperating foreign country, I'll give cbg that).
Ron, you're not usually this dim.
I AM NOT, AND HAVE NOT BEEN, EVER TAKING ABOUT PORN THAT ORIGINATES OR IS TRANSFERRED SOLELY WITHIN THE US.
Who said anything about "solely."
There are a lot of new apps besides this one teens are using. I've seen people share the list on Facebook to check and see if their teens are using it. This is one of them.
I'm not surprised you got that many from older men when you said you're a young teenage (underage) girl. We got Internet when I was a junior in high school. I remember using AOL chat or Yahoo Messenger and I'd go into chat rooms and I would get chats from 50+ year old guys and I was 17. They told me their age I replied "eww gross." I blocked them. But yeah I got a lot of chat requests from older guys and still trying to get with me after telling them my age. Those kind of people have always and will always exist and prey on underage or young teens. These apps just make it easier for them.
I also never, ever agreed to meet anyone from online then nor have since then. I hope when my daughter gets older and I explain to her the necessity to be careful online and who she talks to and what she tells them that she never meets anyone in person.
Okay, I can only assume by this that Ron is deliberately misinterpreting that point that I've been attempting to make. Either that, or he truly does believe that a US law enforcement office is able to go to Slovakia, or Singapore, or Sri Lanka, etc., and arrest the manufacturers of the porn under US law. Never mind if what they're doing is legal in their country; it's illegal in the US so US law enforcement can enforce US law abroad.
Yeah, I know that everything on these applications are technically "traceable".
I have looked into cases in the past involving applications like Facebook, Kik, and Whisper involving these kinds of things and these companies have complied with law enforcement after several years of complains.
However, these new applications like the one I was talking about don't comply with law enforcement. In my conversation with the staff member on this app called NoName he said they don't really have a system for a subpoena because they have never received one for 4 years. I even sent him pictures of the disgusting things I have received and these predator's usernames. However, this staff member said he couldn't do anything. Also, unlike those other apps like Facebook, Kik, and Whisper this app deletes everything off of their server after 7 days making it hard to ever gather enough evidence for a legitimate case. There is also another app called Antichat, which has 1.6 million users. This app has NEVER had a court case against them. They technically have a written out procedure on how to submit a subpoena and submit it to the company but it never has been done. These newer applications like NoName and Antichat make it impossible for law enforcement to pursue anything. The only thing they can do is obtain the app's entire server and then try to recover deleted information. These new apps are enabling bad people more than ever before.
