Modification of Child Support to Alimony
My question involves a marriage in the state of: Massachusetts
I am currently getting a modification of my current child support agreement to straight alimony. I was married for 21 years. I am currently unemployed (no income)due to health issues and he makes approximately $235,000 per year. What would you expect I would get for alimony and for how long?
Also, is there any important points of relevance I need to bring up to my lawyer so I receive the most money possible from this settlement?
Re: Modification of Child Support to Alimony
Child support and spousal support serve two different purposes. The former is for the benefit of the children; the latter is for the benefit of the former spouse. The fact that you desire to recharacterize your child support as spousal support does not of itself mean that a court will agree to do so.
Perhaps you can clarify how long you have been divorced, whether you presently have a spousal support order in effect, and what it is you are trying to accomplish.

Why do you want to do that? How will it benefit you?
