Non-Custodial Parent is Moving Out of State
My question involves a child custody case from the State of: NY
My ex and I share joint legal custody with her having physical custody.
I am interested in moving to the northwest (WA or OR) with my new wife.
What legal steps do I need to take (and by when) to make this move? I'm flexible in terms of visitation.
What are the possible ramifications of such a move?
Would my child support payments change?
Re: Non-Custodial Parent is Moving Out of State
What, if anything, does your custody order say about your relocation?
When you discussed the possibility with your ex-, were you able to come to an agreement as to a long-distance visitation schedule, payment for the cost of transportation, who would accompany the children if they are younger and are to travel by plane, and the like?
Your child support payments are based upon your income, but if you take a voluntary pay cut in order to relocate you cannot count on having your support obligation reduced.
