How to Conform the Payor's Place of Employment and Income for Child Support
My question involves a child custody case from the State of: VA
My ex was working as an independent contractor so no income was garnished for child support and he now owes over 14k. I found out he has a new job, working for a company and I want to tell child support department that his situation has changed. I know they will send him some papers, asking for his income. But what would happen if he does not respond? If he just ignores the paperwork. Is it possible for the child support department to find out where he works somehow?
We do have to be at the court in 2 weeks for custody and support. We were supposed to do court-ordered mediation but he did not respond to the mediator so it was never done. Should I just wait until the court date?
Re: How to Find Out Where He Works if He Doesnt Respond
The employer should, if following the law, report the new hire to the state which will then send an order to the employer.
If there is an outstanding order it doesn't hurt to notify OCSE that he has a job and where. But If you haven't heard anything by the court date you should bring it up.

I don't know the employer. Child support department would send papers to his current home address to ask for his employment info. But he might just ignore it. That's why I am asking if I should get it started or just wait until March. By March he will be an additional three months behind...

He is $14,000 behind and they haven't taken any action against him? The way I understood it from my case worker, they can search by SSN to see when they are employed. My friend is a mail carrier and said she gets requests from CSE to verify if a person is receiving mail at a certain address.

That is why there is a requirement for employers to report new hires to the state. Even if they fail to report at the end of his first quarter of work his wages will be reported to your state's unemployment agency and that information will be shared with the OCSE.
That said bring it up at court.
