What to Do if You are Being Charged for a College Class You Never Attended
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Virginia.

I had enrolled into a class at my local community college that I ended up not being able to pay for, so I dropped the class. I never attended the class and I have proof I never attended the class. They even agreed and dropped the class from my schedule, but still want to charge me for it since I dropped it exactly one day after the window to request a refund (even though I’m not requesting a refund, I’m only requesting to not have to pay for a class I never attended). I’m not really concerned about continuing education at this school, however I would like to know if this charge could go into collections and eventually on my credit report. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

It matters NOT if you attended class or not. You were signed up for it and you didn't withdraw in a timely fashion. You owe the money.
Yes, the college can send these things to collections and you will have your credit trashed.

Generally speaking college contracts provide that the student owes the full cost of the tuition for the class once the drop date has passed, whether or not the student actually attends the class. After all, once the semester or quarter starts the college is not going to be able to fill that slot with some other student, so if you don't pay it‘s not like it can make that up someplace else. You took a spot that someone else could have taken. So you need to decide by the drop deadline whether you will finish the class and if you can't pay for it, make sure you drop it on time. One day late is still late. The college may sue you to get a judgment, may refer you to a collection agency, and may report the debt to credit bureaus, too. Read your contract with the school carefully and see if you have any argument to make that you don’t owe it and if you find something go to the tuition office and try to get them to agree you don’t owe it. Otherwise, you may be stuck with it.

Also simply not attending is not generally how you drop a class. Even before the drop date.
