How to Find Out How Much Child Support You Owe
My question involves a child custody case from the State of: California
Child support arrears of $61,000. I have been paying 838.00 per month since Feb 2011, California charges 10% interest on back child support. How do I figure out what I owe today? Is there a calculator that I can plug numbers into? Thanks.
Re: How to Find Out How Much Child Support You Owe
If the support is being collected by the California Department of Child Support Services, contact them and ask.
Assuming that you have made your payments on time you can probably use a mortgage calculator to estimate your balance based upon the starting figure, interest rate, and number of payments made.

Thanks, so a mortgage calculator will work, calculates interest in the same way CDCSS does?
Re: How to Find Out How Much Child Support You Owe
If you want to know what CDCSS shows as your balance, ask them. Anything else is an estimate.
Re: How to Find Out How Much Child Support You Owe
I did ask them, They said it is a private case and they just disperse the payment and do not manage the account or have those numbers.
Re: How to Find Out How Much Child Support You Owe
That is why we started with, "If the support is being collected by the California Department of Child Support Services...." We only know the facts you share with us.
If nobody is maintaining an accounting, then you should belatedly prepare an accounting and see if the payee agrees with your numbers. Then you should stick to your payoff schedule, consistent with your accounting, so that you will know when your payment is complete.
