Can a Parent be Contacted by a Debt Collector for an Adult Child's Medical Bills
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Nebraska. How do I go about dealing with this collections company. The collection letter and bill had my name on it with my childs address. My adult child is currently under my medical insurance policy. Is it some sort of violation (hippa/fraud) that the medical facility had my name on what I assume was my childs bill? I just don't want my credit affected by this.

Insist that they validate the bill and that you were the patient.

No, it is neither fraud nor a HIPAA violation. It's called a mistake. They happen sometimes since this is an imperfect world. Call and have it corrected.
