Does a co-signer on a lease have rights too?
I'm in NC. I signed a lease with my daughter though she and her baby are listed as tenants. The owner requested this as she is only 19 and just started a new job. She is now letting her boyfriend stay with her, against the terms of the lease. I am concerned they will destroy the apartment when they fight. Do I have any legal right to tell him to move on? Can I press charges if he or they break windows, punch holes, that sort of thing? Thank you for any advice given.

What does your lease say? Did you simply sign on to guarantee the rent and for damages beyond the security deposit?

The lease goes like this: LEASE AGREEMENT, entered into between D. Long and L. Long (Landlords/Owners) of Roxboro, NC and M. DeWald & Mrs. Truby (Tenant) of *** E** St. Apt. 3. For good concideration it is agreed between the parties as follows:
    1. Landlord hereby leases and lets to Tenant the premises described as follows: (address listed)
    2. This Lease shall be for a term of one year commencing (gives dates)

This continues to cover rent, utilities, repairs, etc. Then the specifics about return condition, pets, breach of Lease, and that written permission must be obtained to sub-lease or allow additional tenants.

    6. The Tenant agrees that premises shall be occupied and lived in only by the following residents: M. and baby

Followed by a few more conditions.

Then my daughter, M. DeWald, and I, Mrs. Truby signed at the bottom as Tenants.

    Hope this is more helpfull.

Update to specific situation. Boyfriend was arrested last night for asault on my daughter and a bedroom door was broken in the process. Hopefully she gets a restraining order, but if not, can I make him leave if he comes back? Can I seek restitution for the door? If he breaks more stuff, can I file a complaint against him?

You signed on as security for unpaid rent and damages. You don't have any rights as a tenant.

The primary obligation is to your daughter. If you have to pay the landlord for damages that your daughter is unable or unwilling to pay herself, and those damages were caused by the boyfriend, you can try to recover the money from the boyfriend.
