Caught Shoplifting at Meijer but Didn't Stop for Loss Prevention

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Illinois
I took A few candles from meijer. They tried to stop me out the door but I kept walking to my car, and she didn’t follow me. I’m sure they can get my plate number from video footage.. and I use My card inside to buy dog treats. What does meijer usually do? It’s been a few hours and cops haven’t shown up at my door.

You should expect that they will report the incident to the police, and provide copies of their security video and evidence of your identity to the police. If the police can determine who you are from that evidence, they may contact you or they may forward the matter to a prosecutor to seek the authorization of charges. The process can be slow, and there is no way for you to distinguish a slow-moving misdemeanor criminal investigation from one that is not moving forward, so you will have to wait and see what happens.

Is there a chance they won’t even bother with it? I’ve read some places don’t even bother because it’s so small..

They determined that you appeared to be stealing but, as you didn't stop, they don't actually know how much you stole. They have no incentive to give you the benefit of the doubt.

You will have to wait and see what happens.

Ugh wonder how long you have to wait... definitely learned my lesson...

They have until the statute of limitations expires to take action.

Shoplifters stealing a small amount adds up quickly when many do it.
