Is it a Crime to Sexually Proposition a Minor Online
This is the first time I did this - I was on omegle and started chatting to someone claiming to be 15. She asked if I would like to **** her - I said yes. She asked if I'm okay with her being a minor - I said yes. Nothing more was said other than that.
For some reason I thought she said 18 and thought 18 was classed as minor. I only found out she said 15 when she ended the chat.
She then claims she was from the PD department and she had a location on me - "well Good, I'm am from the PD department. I have your location". Then ended the conversation.
I know this is wrong, I get that. But do you think she was just messing with me?
It kept me up all night worrying about this! I'm a good person, this was just one silly mistake!
Re: Could This Girl Be Messing with Me on Omegle
She's messing with you.
And WHY do men seem to think it's a good idea to engage in sexual chats with strangers on the internet claiming to be girls/women/etc.????
Re: Could This Girl Be Messing with Me on Omegle

Actually having sex with a minor under the age of consent would be a crime. Making arrangements to meet a minor under the age of consent for sex would also be a crime (an attempted sex offense). But what you described, simply stating a desire to have sex with a minor is not a crime. A good cop would typically not make the mistake of revealing himself/herself too early and blowing the opportunity to make a case against you. In any event, if all that happened is what you described you’re not going to have a problem.
The term minor means anyone under the age his or state’s age of majority, i.e. the age they are considered to be an adult. In most states that age is 18. In a few states it is 19. The age of consent for sex in this country varies from state to state between the ages of 16 and 19. It can get complicated because some sex offenses, like child pornography crimes, use the age of majority while other crimes rely on the age or consent or something else. What this means is that engaging in any sexually oriented activity with a person under the age of majority is a risk unless you know the applicable state law extremely well. Most adults should not have a sexual interest in minors anyway — stick with hanging out with adults instead.

Why in the world would you talk to someone who admitted to being 15?!?!? How do you think she said 18 but you straight out say she said 15? 18 isn't a minor in most states either...
If someone from the police department was conversing with you - then you'd be in jail right now and not asking this question. How about you don't talk to minors online and don't engage in sexting with anyone online? You don't know who the other person is on the other end - one of these days it could be a police officer posing as a minor.
Someone is messing with you. Block her. Stay off those sites.

It is likely more than an attempted sex offense. If the activity takes place in interstate commerce (e.g., on the internet) federal law comes into play (18 USC 2422). Even the attempt constitutes an ACTUAL sex offense.
Many states have similar statutes as well (for example 288.2PC).
