What would happen if a minor lied about their age and exchanged nudes with someone who is 18+?
It would depend on what state it happened in and how old the minor was.
Why do strangers keep sending each other nude images on the internet?!?! Have we degenerated that muich as a society? This topic seems to come up all the time, and I continue to be completely baffled by this penchant for inane behavior.
Most sex-related crimes involving minors are strict liability crimes. It doesn't matter if they display a near-perfect forged ID proving they are 18, if they are not 18 you're still guilty of the crime.
Assuming this occurs in the U.S. then both the minor and the other person could be prosecuted and convicted on charges of possession and/or distribution of child pornography. Those charges can result in stiff prison sentences and the requirement to register as a sex offender for many years or for life. That kind of conviction also may lead to deportation if either of them is not a citizen and will prevent that person from being able to travel to many foreign countries as most will not want to admit someone into their country who has been convicted of a child porn charge. Because of this, it is extremely foolish to exchange nude/sexual images with people you do not know. If that other person is a minor, getting nude photos of that minor may have the effect of seriously screwing up your life.
