Can a a Parent of Your Child's Date Ask Your Child About Sex
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Mass
The mother of my son's girlfriend has very strict rules for dating her daughter. One of those rules is that her daughter can only talk on the phone if she is present and the phone is on speaker. When the teens are talking she often interjects. The teens are not allowed to discuss sex. However, the mother brings up the conversation of sex quite often.

It makes my son uncomfortable. I told the woman that she does not have permission to discuss sex with son. I also said if she did it again I would go to the police and file sexual harassment charges.

Does this actually fall in the category of sexual harassment? Are her actions illegal?

When you say she is discussing sex with your son, precisely WHAT is she saying?

I cannot imagine that there is a crime here, but MA may have some peculiar law that makes it a crime to discuss sex with a minor outside the home or school ... though, as liberal as MA is, I would doubt it.

If this happens sufficiently often that you object, forbid your son to call his girlfriend.

The logical response would be to restrict the phone calls.

I agree that the common thought would be to restrict phone calls or decide to be on a speaker phone on your side too so you can hear what is being said and call timeout right there (but honestly that is way overboard).

The term sexual harassment in the law primarily refers to harassment in the workplace that is based on sex. Even there, it is not crime; rather it gives the victim of the harassment a cause of action against the employer if the employer was made aware of the harassment and the employer failed to stop it. She is not committing any crime just talking about sex with you son (and her daughter). If you object to it, tell your son he may no longer have any contact with his girlfriend or his girlfriend’s mother. I feel bad for your son’s girlfriend; her mother’s overly strict rules plus interfering in their phone conversations regularly will likely mean the girlfriend will have trouble keeping boyfriends until she’s out from under her mother’s control.
