What Happens if a Parent Files a Police Report Over Contact With Their Adult Child
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas
Someone just said they are going to file a police report on me for contacting their 18 year old son. I have not even walked down their street since last November. Will I be contacted by the police? His parents really scared me.
I know that his 18th birthday was 7 months ago and they said that I scared him by trying to contact him again. I did not intend to scare him or anyone else in his family. I am never going to contact him again.
Should I be worried if they file a police report?
Re: What Happens when Someone Files a Police Report
The police may follow up with you or they may simply take an informational and do nothing more. Given the son is 18, if the alleged contact occurred after he is 18 and the son doesn't express any concern, the police aren't likely to care unless the parents have some kind of guardianship.
Did you actually contact him? Because your post seems to indicate maybe yes and maybe no. Had you previously been told by him or his parents not to contact him?
Just do as you said and don't have any further contact.

Hus parents told me to leave him alone last November. I thought that it was safe to contact him after his 18th birthday. His parents told me that he is scared of me and they are filing a police report today.
Re: What Happens when Someone Files a Police Report
"Leave him alone" doesn't have an expiration date although once he's an adult, he can have contact with whomever he wishes.
If he is 18 and is not under some kind of conservatorship/guardianship due to diminished capacity and he doesn't make the report to the police, they are unlikely to take it seriously.
Don't worry about unless the police come a'callin'.
Re: What Happens when Someone Files a Police Report
And if the police come a'callin' invoke your right to an attorney and shut up.
The urge to explain yourself is what will get you into trouble.

You've been told multiple times to stay away and not have contact with this child/now adult or his family. Why do you have any reason to believe he wants to be in contact with you? Why do you continue to obsess with him?
How old are you exactly?

Some people need to seek psychiatric help.
