Should I Bring a Lawyer to a Traffic Misdemeanor Hearing
My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Virginia

Hello! I got caught doing 91/55 mph on the dulles corridor, the cop was from MWAA police. he was nice but the said 91 was too much to drop, so he just gave me the reckless driving and told me to speak with the prosecutor at the hearing. Now, I have been in this situation before, doing 45 on a 25. The prosecutor at that time (this was in 2011) pulled a group of us outside the court and gave you choices about dropping to a reg ticket and do driving clinic. Now since this time is over 90mph, would I need a lawyer for this case? or should I be fine on my own? my record is clean, I have a Maryland DL with 0 points and I have +4 in VA.

    Thank you,

Fairfax County GDC? I'd strongly recommend a lawyer. Things have changed. First off, 90 MPH is up there where the judges in Fairfax are fond of handling out 60 day jail sentences (suspended down to 8 days or so). The court and the Commonwealth's attorney have gotten less interested in pleading down such cases to lesser charges (improper driving). You can ask the CA in advance if he will allow such a reduction, but if you go to trial I strongly recommend you have an attorney.

Are you saying that this is your 2nd reckless driving charge?

How can you say you have a clean driving record with 4 points on it? What were these points for?

Yes, get a lawyer. This is what you are facing. Virginia’s Reckless Driving Laws

Yeah I knew Fairfax County was gonna be tough about. I already hired a lawyer, it looks like he is good, $1k fee though lol
