Can a Sixteen-Year-Old Get Emancipated and Move to Another Country
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: New York

I live in New York, and I am currently 15 years old and I turn 16 years old in October. I am currently enrolled in a public high school and will enter the 11th grade, but I have enough credits to graduate at the end of my Junior year a year early.

I want to be emancipated after graduating from high school at age 16 so I can move to the Dominican Republic in order to live on my own and get a job there.

I am both a citizen of the United States and the Dominican Republic because I was born in the Dominican Republic, but I was also born a US citizen because my father was a citizen prior to my birth, and I arrived in New York at 8 months old and grew up there.

I currently don't have a job and I live with my parents, but I plan to get a job so I can buy my own stuff and sustain myself, as well as to earn and save some money so I can pay for the trip.

I plan to find a place to live and a job when I arrive to the Dominican Republic, maybe live with one of my relatives or if I am unable to find a job, I can ask my family to send me money until I can find one.

Also if I get emancipated in the New York, would my emancipation also be recognized in the Dominican Republic (or in any other foreign country)? And if I can't be emancipated, can I still move to the Dominican Republic and work there on my own, and do my parents in the United States still remain my legal guardian while I am living in a foreign country, or can the guardianship be transferred to a relative who lives in the country I want to migrate?

Re: Can I Become Emancipated in New York State at Age 16 to Emigrate Alone to the Dom
The state of NY does not have a statute by which a minor can be emancipated.

If you were ALREADY living ON YOUR OWN (not with your parents) AND making enough money to support yourself, then the state MIGHT deign to acknowledge you as an emancipated minor. But there is no provision in the state of NY for you to go to court and come out emancipated.

There are NO circumstances in any state where a minor can be emancipated based on their promises of what they will do if emancipation is granted. Not living on your own and supporting yourself = no emancipation for you.

When someone is emancipated they do not have a guardian. Laws in foreign countries are different than those in the US. If someone is considered a minor in a foreign country. being emancipated does not change that. Have you meet someone online that lives in the Dominican Republic and they want you to move there ?

I have family members who live in the Dominican Republic from both my parents' sides, and my paternal grandmother who lives in New York with me owns a home in Bonao, Monseņor Noel in which her step-mother currently lives.

Also I have a great-aunt who is a lawyer over there, and lives and works in La Vega and I have talked about this subject with her.

Which does not change the fact that you do not qualify for emancipation in NY, or any other state, and you cannot move out unless your parents say you can.
