Billed for Unpaid Private Parking Charges
My question involves a private parking garage revenue collections in the state of: Washington
I let my roommate use my vehicle to get to and from work and I was unaware that he was parking in a private parking garage and instead of paying each day he was having them write out a pay by mail thing for him to get out of the garage everyday. He has since moved out but I recently received a bill from ABM parking services saying I owe around $600+ in parking to them and they went as far as saying they could have my car towed at anytime and that not paying would keep me from renewing my registration and tabs. So my question is what kind of legal problems would I have if not paid and can they do what they threatened?
Re: The Slc Detective and the Nurse
The owner of a properly posted private lot may tow you from its lot. They can also ban you from entering their property.
If you owe them fees for parking in your lot, they may pursue the debt as a civil matter. That is, they could potentially sue you or try to report the debt on your credit. A private debt won't affect your ability to register your vehicle.
