Stole Money From Circuit City
Hello heres the story if you have any questions please ask. I use to work at a circuit city store i stopped working there in December of last year. Im in a real tough time in my life and need some money. So i thought of this bright idea to go to were i use to work and open the register up and take some money. I called a former co worker who use to work there as well but got fired in February and he knew some pass codes to access the register so i went in and opened the register up and took the money and walked out. Now i had a hat on and i know for a fact that the cameras aren't too good in CC meaning it really cant make out faces too well. So i thought i was in the clear until i got a phone call from one of my former boss 24 hrs later asking me if i was in the store and i said no. He said i was on camera operating a terminal and this and that which i denied the whole thing. He said u have until today meaning yesterday to admit it before it gets turned over to cops. I honestly think he might be bluffing but then again he calls me up out of the blue. So my questions to you are what can be done here? Is that enough proof on camera?? Because noone saw me in the store. What are the odds the cops will show up at my house? And if this does go to court how does it look for me if i deny the whole thing. Any advice possible would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hire a criminal defense Attorney you in deep dog crap!
Re: Stole Money From Circuit City
I suspect they're 90% certain it's you, and will be more than happy to let the police connect the dots if they don't get the money back. The big catch is that they don't have to keep their word to you - if you return the money, they can still prosecute you. If it were me I would get a money order for the amount of money stolen, send it to the store anonymously (but made out to the store, sent to the attention of the store manager, with a note explaining the purpose of the payment), and hang on to the receipt. If they get the money back they really may drop it, but I would not be effectively confessing to the crime.
I suspect that they will be able to make a case with a decent police investigation. "It looks like Joe on the video, Joe was friends with Ed who we just fired and who had the codes, so let's talk to Ed."
(NB: If you purchase the money order at a place which will videotape your purchase, you will be leaving a trail to your identity.)
Re: Stole Money From Circuit City
They could have witinesses and camera view is better than you think. My advice remains the same hire an Attorney let Attorney return money and or give you decent legal advice you are facing serious criminal charges
Re: Stole Money From Circuit City
Actually that's a very good idea. The lawyer can write them a check from his trust fund, and your identity as the client would be protected.
Re: Stole Money From Circuit City
That is a good idea but the cops were most likely involved already so id be screwed twice. I think the reason i was called was because I use to work there and my manager kind of recognized me? So why can I just deny the whole thing due to possibly not being enough evidence. I know for a fact that noone saw me the store was basically empty and the employess that were working were helping someone.
Re: Stole Money From Circuit City
No you are wrong you donot know for a fact no one saw you! Youare assuming this. You were given good advice its your choice to follow it. You would have been calle din and ask to return funds if no one saw you! They coud have witiness statements (which could include those who worked with you on theft), they could have video! If you choose to ignore the matter rather than do whats right then be prepared to deal with consequences

If you get arrested, you should expect that any plea bargain or sentence will include restitution (that is, paying back what you stole).

I did not get arrested. Just a simple phone call saying they have me on camera. And i am not taking the advice for granted I thank you for that but i believe it is too late for that since the police are probably involved. Yes i am assuming that noone saw me, but there was noone in the vicinity of where i was and i kept a low profile when i walked into the store. And statements of who helped me are highly unlikely since it was one person and hes one of my best friends he would tell me. One question though is it possible for my ex boss to be bluffing? And his accusation of what i look like on camera enough?
Re: Stole Money From Circuit City
Your either full of yourself or stupid! they have you! You would not have been called if not. they want thier money just follow the advice given and give it to them! Your not that smart and you don't know you werent seen! the camera view poor or not still could be enough not mention your admittance here! Just pay them back it could be very possible all they want is thier money. Quit assuming your such a great thief that no one saw you or assume camera cannot detect its you. Just pay the money laws vary by state on penalty some are pretty stiff just pay the money in the manner desribed. You wanted advice you got it we are not here to tell you how to get a way with a crime!:wallbang:
