    Leaving Home Without Parental Consent
I am in a very sticky situation. I am a 16 year old female in Virginia and my boyfriend is 22. I know this is really bad but anyways my parents just found out some things (not specifically about him) and they said they don't trust me. They made me give them the house keys and now aren't really speaking.

I plan on leaving. I know where I'll stay and will soon have a job. Can I legally leave home without parental consent and if so how.

Also, if I were to get pregnant (which I am not aiming for) and had a job and still went to school could I possibly get emancipated without consent. And if I had a child would I have to identify the father.

No, you cannot legally leave without their permission. If you leave without their permission they can get your boyfriend into serious trouble.

No, if you get pregnant that is not going to help you get emancipated at all. That just proves you need parental supervision.

I figured. So what if my parents and I came up with a written agreement about a separated living situation. Also, I wouldn't live with my boyfriend I have friends who know about the situation and offered help. I understand i wouldnt be emancipated or anything but for the sake of living arrangements could they force me to come back whenever they want.

Yes, even if they put it in writing that they agree to you living with someone else, they can change their mind any time they want too until you are 18.

Basically, until you turn 18 your parents own you and have all of the power...and there is absolutely nothing that can change that.

No. Not until you are 18.

No. Getting pregnant would mean kissing what extremely slim chance you ever had of emancipation goodbye.

And when I say extremely slim, you can safely read "non-existent". Emancipation is not going to happen. You have posted nothing to suggest that you are even remotely qualified, and you have posted several things to suggest that a petition would be denied by the judge so quickly that the ink on the denial would be dry as you sat down from putting it on the judge's desk.

If you want public assistance for you while you are pregnant and your child when the child is born, they can require you to name the father so they can go after him for child support. Not naming him may mean no assistance.

Oh, and by the way, the age of consent in VA is 18, which means if you turn up pregnant at 16 Mr. Wonderful is going to jail.

You getting pregnant would make you less likely to get emancipation because that shows you're extremely irresponsible.

Obviously you messed up so your parents are doing their job - which is *gasp* parenting!! Imagine that!

If you leave, they can report you as a runaway and the police can bring you back home. You cannot leave home until you are legally an adult. Period.

Yes, the very minute you turn 18 you can leave home legally. As long as you are still 17, you live where your mother says you live.
