Will You go to Jail for Felony Theft
I'm in Colorado, got caught stealing, they watched me for a year. I signed a fact statement admitting taking over 10000 dollars worth of merchandise. Facing a felony, do you think I will do time?

I think there's an excellent chance that you will, yes.

$1000 - $20,000 without force or intimidation is a class 4 felony good for 2-6 years in prison. In some circumstances, it can stretch out to 16 years.

You need a lawyer very badly.

Are we to infer that you were monitored by your employer, and were caught stealing all of that merchandise, resulting in their reporting your crimes to the police? Should we guess that you otherwise have a clear criminal record?

Your punishment could be anything from probation to prison, depending on the full facts and your own criminal history.

I was arrested in 2011 in New York on a misdemeanor for violating a order of protection. Will that show up on my record here?

It will if someone asks for it. All criminal background checks are not created equal. We cannot tell you if it WILL show up because we don't know how extensively the police/your employer/the DA will look. But it CAN.

Please explain to us why you should NOT be sentenced to jail for committing a felony.

I'm just asking for opinions on it because I have to make plans for everyone else.

Yes they watched me take it all and then called the police. I was arrested in 2011 in a different state.
