Can a Pregnant Teenager Move Out of Her Parents' Home
My question involves being 16 and pregnant. I am about 22 weeks and my parents know and are beginning to be rude to me and my boyfriend, who has lived with me since before I got pregnant. I was wondering that, in South Carolina, could we leave and move out without them being able to stop us? We are tired of the way they treat us and we have someone to stay with, a way to school and I even receive WIC and Medicaid.

Longer answer - not a prayer. The minute you got pregnant, you showed that you need more supervision, not less. What extremely little chance you ever had of legal emancipation, which was less than one percent to start with, you kissed goodbye at that time.

Your parents allowed your boyfriend to live with you while you were still a minor, and now they are flabbergasted that you are pregnant?!?!?

Un-flippin' believable! These so-called "parents" should be flogged for allowing this situation to even begin!

And, to reiterate what was already stated: No, you cannot leave home without your parents' permission. And, they can legally boot your boyfriend if they so choose ... though this is something they should have done at the very beginning!

BTW, the same answer would apply no matter what state you live in. In NO state anywhere in the US does pregnancy convey legal emancipation. Medical emancipation - yes; legal emancipation - no.

Not without your parents' permission. If they say you can't leave, you can't leave until you're 18. Suck it up buttercup. They are probably just looking out for you because you're 16 and managed to get pregnant. They have control over you until you're 18 and you have control over your child until it turns 18. What would you do if someday your child is 16 and gets pregnant? I guarantee you'll act the same way as your parents.

It's not easy to raise a kid. I'm 35 and I'm raising my daughter alone. I have a career and everything and it's not the easiest thing - now imagine being 16 and doing it on your own. Being an adult sucks. Also your boyfriend has no say in anything until he is established as the father legally in court and then he only has a say over that child - not you. You have a lot to think about and figure out especially after you finish school.
