Will Unemployment Find Out if I Turned Down an Interview
My question involves labor and employment law for the state of Kentucky
To be clear, I have not turned down a job offer. The job listing that I applied to did not state the name of the company and it out right lied about the location of the job. Now, they have called and asked for an interview. I don't want to go because this is a huge company where I know I would not fit in and it is a very long drive from where I live. i don't have a good car and am not happy they lied about the location.
Will unemployment find out that I turned down an interview and is that something I could get in trouble for?
The only thing I can find in the UI handbook says that you cannot turn down a job offer.
Re: Will Unemployment Find Out if I Turned Down an Interview
No, this is not something you need to worry over. You're fine.
Re: Will Unemployment Find Out if I Turned Down an Interview
Thank you! I was panicking. I wish they made it more clear in the handbook.
Re: Will Unemployment Find Out if I Turned Down an Interview
The criteria is that you cannot refuse "suitable" employment.
Re: Will Unemployment Find Out if I Turned Down an Interview
Are you saying because I found out that this wasn't suitable for me after I was given more information, that I will not get in trouble?
Re: Will Unemployment Find Out if I Turned Down an Interview
You will not get in trouble because you have not received a job offer, because employers do not contact the UI office to tell them who did and did not come in for interviews, and because you are not required to apply for every possible job regardless. If you had attended the interview, been offered a job and refused it, that would be one thing, but not applying for a job because it's too far away isn't even on that same spectrum. There's no guarantee even if you did go to the interview that you'd be offered the job. The UI office will never know you turned down the interview unless you tell them, which you are not required to do.
Relax.
Re: Will Unemployment Find Out if I Turned Down an Interview
Well, the problem is, I did "apply" for the job by sending my resume to the job recruiter. The job listing didn't name the company and it flat out lied about the location. So info was really lacking. But I felt I had some of the qualifications for it. The recruiter called me and asked if we could have a meeting and I agreed. That's when he told me about the company and the location and I realized I didn't want the interview. So I'm worried if UI calls this person to see if I actually sent my resume, he might say yes, but she turned down an interview.

Please actually read cbg's post. You will find it quite helpful.
Re: Will Unemployment Find Out if I Turned Down an Interview
UI is not going to call any company at all to see if you sent in a resume. Where did you get the idea that they do that?
Re: Will Unemployment Find Out if I Turned Down an Interview
@eerelations: I did read it. I don't know what you are saying that I missed in his post. He mentioned I wasn't required to apply for every job. But my point was that I did apply to it by sending my resume.
@cbg: Well, in my state, you have to do a review every 6 weeks and give them a list of all the places that you have applied to. I was told they do check up on these to make sure you have actually sent your resumes out. My concern was, that if they contacted this one that I have been talking about, that the person would say yes she sent it but she turned down an interview. If I am mistaken, that's fine. But that is what I was told at the UI office.
