What is the Penalty for Obstructing a Police Officer and Trespassing
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Washington
What can I realistically expect for a sentence on these two crimes as a first time offender? I was issued a citation to appear on these charges. The obstruction charged stems from it being very dark at night and freezing in a bad area and I and a friend were walking home and we hopped a fence in a large park area to take a short cut and We was walking and shortly heard footsteps coming at us quickly and We got scared because it was a bad area and ran and my friend kept going and left but after about twenty seconds heard a policeman identify himself and I immediately stopped and complied and he told me to sit down and not move and he was questioning me and asked about my friend and to see my phone and to go to my friends Facebook and show him and to call him and if I didnt I would be arrested so I did everything he asked and he gave me a citation for Tres. 2 and obstruction of a PO...so what realistically am I looking at? I have no criminal history in Wa and am an employed ill time student.

I really can’t provide any help regarding your legal situation because, frankly, I can’t make heads or tails of what you wrote. As an “ill time student,” you might want to concentrate a bit more on punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, and comprehensible writing.

Generally speaking, trespass 2nd is a valid charge for being in a park with posted hours after those hours – especially if you had to jump a fence to get there. With what little info I can glean from your gibberish, I don’t see any argument to that charge. Obstructing is similarly a valid charge for running from the cops. Both charges are gross misdemeanors. While jail is possible, depending on your prior run-ins with the law, fines and probation are more likely. I noticed you specified that you have no criminal history IN WASHINGTON – what is your criminal history elsewhere? Are you a juvenile?
