How Does In-State Transfer of Probation Work
ok y'all I live in Louisiana and my po is going to file for my transfer well Monday I go and pay him and start what ever it is I have to do!

    My question is
    what should I expect ?
And how long has it taken others to get some type of response?

You'll likely have to wait in LA if/until the compact is accepted by the recipient state, this process can take weeks to months (took 3 months for me), the most important thing to them was knowing I had an actual physical address to live at if the transfer was accepted. If you are accepted, you'll have to show up to report at your destination probation office within hours of arriving to your new destination. In my case, they wanted to UA me immediately, they issued me the riot act, and explained if I screwed up one bit in their jurisdiction I would be returned to my original state to serve the remainder of my probation there. Within a month, I was reclassified under their system, and reduced to the lowest tier of offender, in which case I was only required to mail in monthly reports to my probation officer. Good luck.

It depends on the state you are trying to transfer to whether or not they want to accept your probation. If that state says no, then you don't get to go there. Pay your PO what?

It really depends on the other state and your case. Each one is different.

I don't know about that. My ex paid zero of his fines. I paid for two drug and alcohol evaluations that were part of his probation and I think he went to the DV class. He tried to get me to pay his fines but I didn't. I don't recall he had to pay his PO in either state before they did the transfer. I didn't pay anything and he has rarely had a job so he didn't pay them.

Is this interstate or intrastate compact?
