Should You Tell Your Probation Officer About Other Criminal Offenses
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
Good Morning,
I posted before about my u-scan theft. I've been sentenced to probation for 6 months, along with fines and retail fraud counseling.
I saw the counselor for a pre class interview. She wanted me to admit to how many times I didn't scan all my purchases. When I said 1 time she was not happy and said I did not have the correct attitude to overcome my problems and that she would be reporting me to my probation officer.
I want to be compliant and get this behind me. But I'm also afraid if I'm totally honest that I will end up back in court with worse charges. I realize now that what I did was wrong, stupid and criminal and it won't happen again. One time in court is enough. I'm having a very hard time dealing with my self and my actions.
Thanks, Gracie
Re: Honesty with Probation Officer and Counselor
did you have a question to ask or did you just want to vent?
Re: Should You Tell Your Probation Officer About Other Criminal Offenses
Talk to your lawyer.
You can't be prosecuted simply for giving a number, and it is possible to be treated as having violated probation if you are deemed non-compliant with your court-ordered counseling program. A local criminal defense lawyer may be able to give you a better sense of how your specific probation officer and, if it comes to that, the court would respond to the counselor's belief that you are lying about your history.

No I'm not trying to vent. I'm just scared to end up in more trouble. I don't have a lawyer. My husband would not let me get a lawyer. So I plead guilty at arraignment. If I tell them I did this before I'm afraid of more charges and going to jail. So I was hoping someone could tell me if I have to answer all the questions the counselor ask me? Specifically how man times did I go thru a u-scan and not pay for all my groceries.

Your husband can't control whether you get a lawyer or not. Never plead guilty. You are probably not going to get more charges if you admit to other times. That's up to the prosecutor.
