Repo Laws and Rights

In north carolina what are the laws on auto repo? can they go in a locked yard? a friend left a car in my yard, she is now 6 months behind on payments. the repo man has been twice. once at 12:30 at night and once at 2:30 am. never knocking on the door. they sit and watch my yard. I would give them the car if they would ask. I was told that if they did not repo the car with in one year that they could not legally touch it is this true? what do i need to do?

to mr.knowitall its not my car and i would like it out of my yard. I dont even have a key to move it so i can cut the grass.

As I said, next time they are present rather than waiting for them to ask you for permission, offer it.
