What Will Happen if You Forget a Criminal Charge on Your Naturalization Application
Hi. Recently applied for my citizenship and had my interview today. I have been a permanent resident since 2008 and it 2010 i had DUIs. One was dropped down to a reckless driving and the other didn't. The thing is that when I filled out my application I failed to disclose one of the charges. It just didn't come to my mind. Today when she did my interview she told me that there were two different case numbers and because I was Nervous I didn't think that about the other charge and so I told her that it had gone into collections and so it must have been that. She asked to bring court paperwork showing the case was completed and I didn't owe anything. It wasn't until I got to the car that I looked at the paper and saw both case numbers that I realized that I failed to explained and tell her about the other charge. I haven't been I trouble since, I am married with a 9 year old . And so she asked me to bring back the paperwork with two photos. I am now freaking out because I realize that u didn't tell her about the charge but i wasn't trying to omit it. I just didn't think of it. What should I do? Should I get a lawyer? Please help me!!
Re: Accidentally Ommited a Charge in My Interview and Application
You should talk to an immigration attorney ASAP. Lying about convictons twice is going to seriously jeopardize your naturalization application.
Re: Accidentally Ommited a Charge in My Interview and Application
I wasn't trying to lie. Because I l my out one of the charges I was only thinking about what j wrote on the papers while she was asking me questions. Then after I left is when I remembered about the second charge and that is when I looked at the paper and realized what I did. I wasn't trying to omite anything, i just honestly didn't think of it until I started thinking about the whole thing and looked at the dates in the paper.
Re: Accidentally Ommited a Charge in My Interview and Application
An inadvertent, accidental lie is still a lie.
Re: Accidentally Ommited a Charge in My Interview and Application
You attested both on the N-400 and at the interview that the information given was the truth. It makes little difference that you claim there was no adverse intent. GET YOURSELF TO A LAWYER. They can take care of whatever disclosures need to be made at this point and cat get you back on track. If the CIS determines that you are fradulently trying to obtain citizenship, your chances of EVER doing so are slim.
