How Do Stores Identify a Previous Shoplifter
My question involves criminal law for the state of: SC
If someone shoplifts or is suspected of shoplifting from a store, then goes back to the store, how do store employees know they're the shoplifter? Like if all of the employees are different from the original ones from whatever incident, how are they supposed to know who to look for? Do employees have to look through the security footage and memorize who to look for? And what about different stores that are a part of the chain?
Re: How Do Stores Identify a Previous Shoplifter
Loss prevention is technology based now, so what makes you think they can't share images of you with another store? And how hard is it to have images of suspected shoplifters close by the register?
This isn't rocket science. You seem bent on returning to where you were being watched before, and it's not a good idea. Find an honest way to make a living. Nobody here is going to help you figure out how to steal without getting caught. Have a nice day.
Re: How Do Stores Identify a Previous Shoplifter
I'm not asking how to steal without being caught? I was just wondering how likely it is for them to know the faces. Like I said before, I understand I shouldn't shoplift, and won't. Just trying to understand why should stop shopping at a store forever, especially if I'm going in the store and not breaking any laws or being shady and just go in to buy something.

Like I said, stores have cameras. Even in places you'd never suspect them to be. Why not give it some time (a few months) before you go back- because I can assure you that loss prevention will notice you or one of the employees will recognize you. Some of them work in more than one store.
These chain makeup places have websites where you can buy online. I know because that's how my wife prefers to shop.
Re: How Do Stores Identify a Previous Shoplifter
Stores purposely do not identify how they recognize shoplifters. Why give you information you can use to defeat their methods?

I suppose you have a point there
