What is the Likely Sentence for Shoplifting Alcohol from a Gas Station
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ohio.
I was caught stealing a bottle of wine from a gas station and have court this Thursday. The arresting officer requested my girlfriend attend the court hearing because I think he took a liking to her because she got pissed at me in front of the cops. Do you think my girlfriend being there could reduce the sentence if the officer requested her? Does anyone know how much jail time I'll have to sit if any? What should I talk to my public defender about?

He probably has to be there because she is a witness. I doubt she's going to have any impact on your sentence.

What were you charged with? Theft? Theft of under $1000 is a first-degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to 180 days in jail and/or $1000 (plus costs) fine. If either of you is under 21, there may be alcohol charges pending as well.

You should explain everything truthfully to your public defender (if you qualify for one). You should ask if there is the possibility of a pretrial or other diversion that will avoid you ending up with a criminal record.
