Is a Tenant Liable for Damage from an Accidental Grease Fire
My question involves insurance law for the state of: ontario canada my daughter had a house fire in Jan 2017 and it was deemed started by a pot of oil on the stove caught fire. The landlord terminated there occupancy and has now started a legal suit for 56, thousand dollars I need to how to help her and her boyfriend out they r only like 25 years old please help they lost everything and had no insurance on contant. The landlord right now has only emailed them but is going to file this soon this is the email he sent

I got informed that you entered the house on without consent. Is that true?
I have contacted you in mid February looking to you to cover my loss of the following:
$1000 Insurance Deductible
$500 Disposal fees of your damaged items/furniture that you left behind.
$500 Hydro and Gas disconnect/reconnect fees.
$1,258 for rent paid back to David
$150 (100/month) storage for things that you have in the garage of house. I do ask that you remove things from garage within 3 days
$53,250 to repair damaged unit.
Total loss I'm seeking compensation from you is*$56,658*
Additional costs will be added for cost of filing and legal if need be.

Ontario is a state? All of it, or just the part that's south of Detroit?
I'm not familiar with bankruptcy laws in Canada, but it sounds like she would benefit from consulting a Canadian bankruptcy lawyer.
