What am I to expect??
I have begun calling some criminal defense attorneys in the area. I am hoping to ask them some questions and find out some more answers. But, if anyone has some advice for me it would be greatly appreciated.
I gave you the advice contact a criminal defense Attorney you did!
Does anyone know if Indiana has a diversion type of program?
lol this is nothing to be too scared about.if this is your first charge, get a court appointed..theyll give you an option for a preliminary exam..wave it cuz you know u stole and theres no sense in u goin ahead with the prelim. it might even make it worst than what it is.after that your gonna wait..a month, maybe longer maybe not.your gonna go to pretrial.make it clear to your lawyor u do NOT want this charge on your record.ask him/her to ask the prosecutor if u can get enrolled with the diversion program (if u dont know if indiana has one, look it up on the net) as long as the amount stolen/imbezzled is under $3,000.00 you should be ok. i was just in court yesterday for my 3500 embezzlement charge and they dismissed my case, made me pay 550 to bring my amount under 3,000 and let me get into the diversion program.:D
what ever u do..do not let it eat u up,if its your first offence your gonna be ok.just go along with what they say.dont act like a bad ass and youll be ok.
good luck with everything and i hope this can help u out.if its your first offence...i wouldnt pay for an attorney.roll with a court appointed, the case is not that serious.i dont even think the little bit u stole would be a felony.anyways
good luck,

well i went to court on wednesday. i went in and filled out all of the forms and the officer explained to me that i was able to do a deferred program. he then sent me down to another office where they explained everything to me.
i have to pay court cost and such, then basically remain out of trouble for 1 year (taffic violations don't count). I then have to enter a shoplifting provention program and finish it. at that point i don't have anything else to do. the total cost for me is $400.00. PLUS, it doesn't go on my record.
I appreciate everyones feed back and advice to me. you all helped to answer my questions. if you are in a similar situation do not feel bad if you want my own personal advice or just need someone to talk to.
Thanks to all again I really appreciate it ... and I WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAIN!!
did you have a lawyer with you at your court hearing?
