Is There a Statute of Limitations on Parking Violation Fines
My question involves a parking citation from the state of: California
I have a notice from a third party collection agency stating I apparently owe $130 on an unpaid parking ticket from the city of Redondo Beach. I realize Statue of Limitations don't apply to the original citation as that was not a debt but rather a fine when issued, however, since this fine has been sold and now is consequently(?) a debt, does that mean that SOL applies in some manner, here?
Re: Is There a Statute of Limitations on Parking Violation Fines
It is unlikely that the fine has in fact been sold. A collection agency is an agent -- it collects a debt on behalf of the owner of the debt. What is the basis for your belief that the municipality no longer owns the debt?
Re: Is There a Statute of Limitations on Parking Violation Fines
No, there is no SOL on traffic or parking fines. A failure to pay can result in the imposition of a civil assessment of $300 and can also result in the suspension of your driver's license until the fine is paid.
I would pay the $130 ASAP.
