Can You Get Charged for Contacting a 13-Year-Old Child After Being Told to Stop
My question involves police conduct in the State of: California

So im 16 and i live in California, i met this girl thats 13 and lives in Connecticut. We both like each other a lot and we've been talking for more than two months now by texting and video chatting literally everyday . i had talked to her mom twice and she seemed pretty chill and sounded like she liked me. Until one night were the girl i like tried to call me and so long story short her mom finds out she tried to call me and just starts going insane on my using quotes like "back the **** off my daughter" and "this isn't a real relationship". she also threatened to call the police on me if we kept talking. After that night her mom thought that we had stopped talking but neither of us could just end what we had over night so we kept talking until tonight where she got caught talking to me again. her mom called me started yelling at me and cussing again and just going crazy. She said that im harassing and stalking her daughter or something somehow which i dont understand because she wants she really likes me as well and wants to talk to me (but whatever, you can clearly tell that her moms crazy). So after all of this she said that she will be contacting the police tomorrow. Her mom is literally the one thats harassing me and she has given me so much stress. ive literally missed so much sleep and have had so many nervous breakdowns because of her mom that i dont even know what to do.

i was just wondering if theres anything here that i could get in trouble for and what will happen if she ends up lying to the them and giving them false information. Can i get in trouble if she lies to the police?

Two things: One, you have no real idea how old she is. And, two, Eeeew!!!

Well, in truth, it not much of one. You two are a couple of kids flirting across the continent by text and video. If that is the extent of it, there's no legal problem. Though, if that had been my 13 year old daughter, this "relationship" would have been over as soon as I found out.

Here's what you do: LOSE THE GIRL'S CONTACT INFO! This is over and done. Period. Her mom has every right to control what her daughter does and who she talks to. If you continue down this path it is possible that you might find yourself in the midst of some form of legal Hell. Better to move on and start to grow up than run the risk of being subject to court orders or criminal allegations.

That all depends on what is reported to the police.

Time for this to end. It's over. Disconnect and move on.

Until the girl is 18 she is under the control of her parents. If her mother tells you to stop talking to her daughter then you need to stop talking to her. Continuing to contact her after her mother has told you no can lead to legal problems for you. Whether you might face any criminal legal trouble will depend on all the details of what happened and what the mother tells the police. Bottom line here is that you really need to stop talking to this girl.

Yes. You can. If her parents told you to stay the hell away you stay away. You're 16 - go find someone else. Why are you messing with a 13 year old?

No her mom isn't crazy she's being a parent protecting her child. Until that girl is 18 or the age of majority her parents can control what she does, who she sees, talks to, etc.

When a parent tells you to stop talking to their child you do it. If that was me when my daughter is 13 and some punk ass little 16 year old boy is talking to her and I told him to stop and he didn't, you better believe I'm going to handle that especially if the punk ignores my request to stop talking to my daughter.

What false information is she going to give them? Just stop talking to 13 year old girls. It's weird when you're 16. You don't have girls closer to your age who you can talk to?

Have you met her? No? Then she might be younger than that and if she is younger than 13 and five years younger than you.

You're 16. You have your whole life ahead of you. Don't ruin it over some girl you never met and don't know.

Mom is crazy for wanting to protect her CHILD?

You're encouraging this CHILD to keep talking to you despite her PARENT telling her not to do so?

The ONLY thing I'm willing to put on Mom is the fact that she apparently hasn't yet kicked her CHILD out of the garden of eden. If it was my daughter, she wouldn't have Internet access at all - period - until she had proven herself trustworthy.

    Good grief.

And you think you've had "so many nervous breakdowns"? No, son, you haven't. You're a melodramatic teen who thinks his opinion matters when in reality, it matters not one teeny tiny iota.

Stay away from children before a court makes the decision for you.
