Can You Call Protective Services if the Mother is Still Pregnant
My question involves child abuse or neglect in the State of: Florida
If a pregnant mother is committing risky behaviors (drugs, etc), at what point do you call protective services? Do you wait until the baby is delivered?
Re: When Can You Call Protective Services if the Mother is Still Pregnant
Child Protective Services cannot do anything until there is a child that is at risk. There is not legally a child at risk until the child is born.
Re: Can You Call Protective Services if the Mother is Still Pregnant
If you make a credible report to Florida DCF about a pregnant family member who is using illicit substances, they may try to get her into a Healthy Start program, a program for pregnant women who have problems with drugs or alcohol. If they make the attempt and she is not willing, they would be in a position to potentially obtain a drug screen or take other protective actions at the time the child is born.
