How Long Does a Landlord Have to Fix Your Only Heat Source in the Winter
In Northern California during the winter, how long does a landlord have to fix your only heat source in your rental home?

The landlord must repair the heat within a reasonable time -- which ordinarily will not be more than a couple of business days, although sometimes complications arise (e.g., the need to replace a furnace, the need to special order parts). If there is going to be a material delay in making repairs, the landlord should provide an alternative heat source to render the premises habitable, or arrange for substitute accommodation while repairs remain pending. The devil, as they say, is in the details.
