Letters for Civil Demand and Now a Phone Call
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Oklahoma
I got caught shoplifting a lipstick(7.00 or so) & changing a price tag( from 14. To 10.)at a Walmart in Oklahoma in December. Lipstick was returned and shirt was also but I purchased an item at regular price and they let me keep those but refunded the money for the shirt. No police were called and I was asked to leave and not come back for 24 hours but not even escorted out.

Now I have received 3 letters from A. Craig Abrahamson (in-state) for Michael Ira Asen for a civil demand of 100.00 and just got a phone call on my cell. The name on the letters is incorrect and I have ignored the letters because I didn't know what else to do after doing some online research but now what do I do?

Do I need to return the call, block the number, panic, or get a lawyer? I have never been in trouble with the law. I honestly don't have any idea why I did either of those stupid things and am terribly ashamed. I have a small business in my small hometown and this would ruin me and my children if word got out. Any help is appreciated.

You can (a) pay the civil demand, (b) negotiate and try to pay a lower amount, or (c) ignore the demands for payment and then wait to see if they sue you.

I suspect that the longer you hold off paying the civil demand, the more likely that "word will get out."
