Marriage to an Illegal Immigrant
My Boyfriend and I have been talking about Marriage. He is an illegal immigrant, who has already applied for Residency with his father (he came into the country at the age of 18, his parents are now legal residents)
He has waited many years and hopefully will get approved within the next 2 years.
My question is this, If we get married, will that cause any problems with his current application? Will it speed up his process of becoming a legal resident or hinder it ? Should we even get married ? Or wait for him to become a resident ?
Marriage to Illegal Alien
If he hasn't done so already, your boyfriend should be discussing his situation with an immigration lawyer. Marrying an illegal alien is not a shortcut around immigration laws.
MARRYING AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT
To all the ladies and gents that are in love with an illegal immigrant and is either marrying, already married and/or have children together- well we all need to ban together to petition BUSH and Congress on considering us.
Here is my story- I met my fiance, Pablo at the gym nearly 2 years ago- we have fallen crazy in love and he proposed in front of my family on xmas eve- 2005! He is from Mexico and I am American (born and raised). We are single but living together. We recently discussed getting married and of course the issue of traveling came up- (we wanted to also get married in Mexico for his mom and sisters to attend)- however because of his status here - well that is all but a dream.
We recently consulted 2 different lawyers and found out that folks like us dont matter to the government and even having children wont protect you much. You see the government has decided that although my fiance has filed taxes for the past 4 years that he has been living here, has a tax id #, is starting his own business, works hard and makes a decent living, is a good law abiding "citizen" and keeps out of trouble- he is unwanted in this country. He attends college to perfect his English and is a wonderful person. I work also and we are god fearing family oriented people.
The lawyer told us yesterday that we can of course get married but not apply for his papers. ( We dont need any papers for civil marriage ceremonies). IF he were to travel home or anywhere for that matter outside of the US- he will be subjected to the 10-year law penalty- in other words he would not allowed into the US for 10 years! He cannot apply for a drivers license, he cannot travel by plane anywhere ( not even interstate), he basically is to be on alert at all times.
So now heres our dilemna- what can be done- we would love to travel to see his family in the next few years 2-3), we wanted to have our honeymoon in the caribbean,- we are stuck! SURE - WE CAN GET MARRIED AND HAVE A BABY OR TWO- ONLY TO BE PARANOID EVERYDAY THAT IF SOMETHING WERE TO HAPPEN HE CAN BE DEPORTED AT ANYTIME UNLESS I CAN SHOW PROOF THAT I CANNOT FINANCIALLY MAKE IT WITHOUT HIM!! NOW AINT THAT A BITCH!!
I feel that something needs to be done!! I imagine that there are plenty of couples in our predicament and well we need to ban together and petition our government to show some kind of respect for folks like us!! We are only trying to do what so many others take for granted- have a decent life, a business, our own home and a happy family!!!
SO if there are any others like myself- i would LOVE To hear your story and a way to contact you- either via email or phone! I feel something needs to be done and only if we ban together will our voices be heard!! As a group we will be able to find solutions- alone our cries go on deaf ears and worst of all is we can be separated at any time and our spouses deported for a minimum of 10 years!!
