If this is a protective services action, and the matter remains open, then the grandmother should talk to the child's caseworker.
If this is not a protective services matter, the grandmother, the mother, or both may petition the court that granted custody to the grandmother to modify its order, returning custody to the mother, documenting to the court a change in circumstances that justifies revisiting the custody order and facts that support a finding that the modification is in the best interest of the child.
If the child has a legal father, the father would be entitled to notice of the custody proceedings.
