Re: Texas Emancipation Law
ok. i can understand being able to support yourself financially...but my mom won't let me move in w/ my boyfriend. she won't let me move out in general. i keep hearing that i can legally move out at 17 and that my mom can't do anything about that. is that true?
Re: Minor Moving Out in Texas
do you need parent consent to move out when you're 17? i keep hearing that you don't, but then other people tell me that i do.
Re: Minor Moving Out in Texas
What your hearing is not correct. What happens is Police rarely search for runaways that are 17 years of age. In order to leave home without parental consent you must be age of majority, emancipate or Ward of the court to name a few
Re: Texas Emancipation Law
No its called runnking away an dits not legal. By the way your parents could get a protective order on your BF if yo took such an action
Re: Texas Emancipation Law
The first part is a "police department policy" question. Some police departments choose not to involve themselves with 17-year-old runaways, because they know that kids that age are likely to keep running away, and in states like Texas the juvenile court probably won't or can't do anything once the kid turns 17. But it's still running away, and as panther10758 indicates your boyfriend can get in trouble for "harboring a runaway" if he helps you hide from your parents. (And you may live in a jurisdiction where the police will make you go home.)
Re: Texas Emancipation Law
you wrote this and im currious, do you know anything about the houston city cops? how about sugarland? if not its ok, i was just wondering because i dont want to getmyself into trouble, im not planning on running away or anything, but im not sure if i want to drag out any case on emancipation if i could just leave now.
