My son is 16 and got caught stealing a bottle of Bacardi Rum $12.?? Meijers is making him pay $129.?? He was taking to the cop shop. He has to go to court. Never been in trouble. My question is what are the deversion programs I keep seeing people write about? Is there a web site or does anyone have information. In Michigan

You can discuss diversion and if you son qualifies with your Attorney. If you have no Attorney get one or request a public defender at next court date. Diversion act same as conviction (mostly) with fines community service etc. However uipon successful completion of diversdion terms no conviction shows on your record
