Can You Be Fired With No Evidence or Investigation
An employee in Michigan was fired after 18 years with a company on suspicion of stealing $200. There is no security camera, the employer wouldn't listen to the employee, and the employer didn't investigate the denial. Does the employee have any rights?
Re: Can You Be Fired With No Evidence or Investigation
The employee has the right to apply for unemployment, and to look for other jobs. Michigan is an at-will state, so even if the employer was mistaken in its grounds for termination, in the absence of an employment contract, collective bargaining agreement or civil service law (for public employees) that restricts its action, it may fire an employee at any time for any reason that does not violate civil rights laws.
