    Juvenile Shoplifting at Kohls
    my 15 year old daughter shoplifted a 7.00 ring from kohl's. when we were leaving the store they asked us to come back in the store.in short the ring was returned they never called the police and stated they were not pressing charges because they recovered their ring. now a month later i receive a letter stating i have to pay them $150.00 civil penalty is this legal my daughter was never charged??? :wallbang:

    Yes. Civil demand and criminal proceedings are different. Read a few threads in this forum about shoplifting and it should become clear.

    It is within the law and youy could fight it and lose then be forced to pay court cost not mention late penalty for Civil Demand and your credit rating harmed. Its not worth it pay the money

    You didn't mention the name of your state, but that doesn't change the already correct responses.

    Pay the fine and have your daughter pay you back.
