Spousal Support After a Long-Term Separation
A married couple in New York has been separated for six years, and is now filing for divorce. One partner is stating that she will seek spousal support. How will their long-term separation affect her ability to get alimony?

Re: Spousal Support After a Long-Term Separation
Although it's not entirely dispositive, if the couple has been separated and living independently for six years with no financial support during that time, there is a significant chance that a court will deny the petition. The best thing to do is to have the case reviewed by a family lawyer for advice not just in relation to support, but also for other issues such as the division of assets and retirement accounts.
