Can You Get Child Support Without Filing for Divorce
If a Texas couple separates, is it possible for the parent who is caring for their children to get an order for child support without first filing a divorce case?

In Texas, a parent who is separated from the other parent may file a Suit Affecting the Parent-Child Relationship (SAPCR) that asks a court to issue a custody, visitation and support order. It really only makes sense to do so if there is a realistic chance of reunification, as otherwise it is no more difficult to file a divorce and have the court address custody and child support as part of the divorce case.
