The minimum amount of time? If the juvenile has a clean record and is tried in juvenile court, the minimum amount of time for the charge would be that he is not sentenced to any period of incarceration. His concern should probably be the maximum amount of time he could serve -- as in juvenile court he could be sentenced to detention until he ages out of the system. If waived to adult court, he could be looking at 3-5 years.
He should discuss the case in detail with a criminal defense lawyer who can advise him based upon the facts, fight to keep the case in juvenile court if the prosecutor is seeking a waiver, and try to minimize any period of detention.
