Re: Emancipation problems
Okay, I am a 16 year old female living in Virginia Ill be 17 in 5 months and wont graduate highschool untill 09' I have a steady job which I am working at after school and I'm brining home 200.00 to 300.00 dollars a week. Im living with my 15 year old brother, my mother and stepdad. My mom is constantly telling me how worthless I am, and how stupid and retarded I am, and sometimes if she is mad enough she will hit me, sometimes with her first across the back of the head or just smack me. My step dad is constantly calling me an idiot, and telling me that Im never going to amount to anything.
My boyfriends mom said that I could move in with them, just as a place to live but that I would have to pay rent, and by my food and stuff.
I have read some other posts and they have been really helpfull. But just not helpfull enough. Then I came across this one. And it confused me. Becuase in another one you said that it didnt matter who we lived with.
PLEASE HELP ME

Also, what thread did you read that mentioned it did not matter where the minor lived?
Did it mention the minor had the permission of the parents'?
If you believe you are being abused contact the proper authorities.

Virginia's emancipation law doesn't say anything about whether you have to live alone or can live with somebody else, nor does it indicate that you have to work full-time as opposed to part-time.
Sorry it was Aaron.
But thats what was said
Re: Emancipation problems
Quote:
iii) the minor willingly lives separate and apart from his parents or guardian, with the consent or acquiescence of the parents or guardian, and that the minor is or is capable of supporting himself and competently managing his own financial affairs.
This is one of the important points that the statute makes clear.
Are your parents willing to give their permission for you to live there?
Re: Emancipation problems
They arent WILLING to let me do this AT ALL.
Its just something I have talked to my dad about and he said if I wanted to. To go ahead but he would hate to see me do it. If my dad is willing (*not step dad*) would my mom still have to aprove of it

Both parents would be involved if you were to petition for emancipation.
If the mother does not agree that you can move in with boyfriend, she could call the police and have you reported as a runaway.
Re: Emancipation problems
Ok so basicaly, to file for emancipation is USELESS. Because I know my mother isnt ganna sign for me to do this... She wont give her consent for me to be emancipated.
You figure that if your EMACIPATED (*being able to live on your own and to provide for yourself*) that you should be able to do what you please.
None of this solves my problems..
So I guess Just to stick it out for another year and 5 months is ganna have to be my choice
