Accused of Stealing from a Shared Register
An employee in Florida was fired after being accused by her employer of stealing from the cash register. The employer states that the theft has gone on for months. The cash register is used by the entire staff, and each staff member enters their ID number when entering a transaction. What could happen to the employee?

Re: Accused of Stealing from a Shared Register
If the employer reports the thefts to the police, and the suspicions that the employee committed the thefts, the police will review the evidence to try to determine if they could build a case against the employee. If they find that they have probable cause, they will have a prosecutor review their findings and recommendation and, if the prosecutor agrees, then the employee can be criminally charged for the acts of theft.

Even if the employer does not go to the police, or the police don't find sufficient evidence to support a finding of probable cause that the employee was the thief, the employee can reasonably expect to be fired.
